How to create the first domain controller for the new domain in Windows Server 2003

We want to create domain controller for a new test.local domain in a new forest

Step 1.
click Start -> Run; type:”dcpromo” and click “OK”

Step 2.
You will see the Active Directory Installation Wizard (first page); click “Next”

Step 3.
click “Next” on the “Operating System Compatibility” window

Step 4.
accept the default options of “Domain Controller Type – Domain controller for a new domain” and click “Next”

Step 5.
accept the default options of “Create New Domain – Domain in a new forest” and click “Next”

Step 6.
type the new domain name and click “Next”

Step 7.
accept the default options of “NetBIOS Domain Name” and click “Next”

Step 8.
now You can choose the “Database and Log Folders” and click “Next”
(for best performance and recoverability, store the database and log on separate hard disks)

Step 9.
enter the location of “SYSVOL Folder” and click “Next”
(the SysVol folder stores the server’s copy of the domain’s public files and it’s replicated to all domain controllers in the domain)

Step 10.
accept the default options of “Permissions compatible only with Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003 operating systems” and click “Next”

Step 11.
enter the password

Step 12.
click “Next” at the summary screen to start the Active Directory Installation Wizard

Step 13.
click “Finish” when Active Directory is installed
